Def Leppard: Hard Rock Done Right

The “hysteria” of Def Leppard back in the 1980s is simply unmatched… for many reasons.

Not many bands can lose a drummer’s arm and come back to the mainstream better than ever just a few years later.

I personally believe Pyromania is a hard rock masterpiece with classic staples like “Photograph,” “Rock of Ages,” “Foolin’,” “Too Late for Love,” and fan-favorite, “Die Hard the Hunter.”

Selling almost 30 million copies of records on their first five albums combined, Def Leppard taught up-and-coming artists how to do rock right.

Something about them was polished, with an unexplainable edge that producer Mutt Lange enforced across their work. However, Def Leppard never lost their sound when performing live.

I respect artists so much who are able to accomplish exactly what they did on a produced recording, not relying on the bells and whistles that “post-production” can add to an artist’s actual skillset. The In the Round, In Your Face concert from 1988 live in Denver, Colorado, proved just that.

Frontman Joe Elliot’s voice is unchanged in the studio and live in an arena. He has so much power and control that literally shifts the electricity in the room, creating an immersive experience for those wanting to hear their favorite band and feel it in their bones.

Def Leppard continues to record music on a different level than most artists who choose to continue their legacy long after their prime years.
