Rod Stewart has been one of rock’s biggest singer-songwriter stars for over 50 years. On Monday, September 28, he called an end to a long career of fame and success on an Instagram video post.

“Ladies and gentlemen, after much deliberation and sadness, I have to announce next year will be my last tour forever, ever.”

Rod had a health scare on his tour in August where he had to abruptly cancel a Cincinnati show last minute for a “minor medical procedure.” A few days later, his team shared with the fans that Stewart had successfully undergone “a routine coronary stent procedure,” subsequently cancelling the remainder of his tour and residency dates through September for a recovery.

I’m sure this is the core reason he had to end live gigs as a part of his career supported by “Maggie May,” “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy?,” “Baby Jane,” and “Young Turks.”

Grammy-wise, Rod Stewart has maintained a consistent nomination run of 15 over 27 years with a win in 2005 for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album for his album, Stardust...The Great American Songbook Volume III.

“I’m not retiring, but this will be the last rock ‘n’ roll tour. So I want to thank you for everything you’ve given me, and, hopefully, I’ve given you something in return.”
